The Rhombus
Single Family Dwelling + ADU
Los Angeles [Silverlake], CA
Shoehorning a small home into a non-orthogonal, upsloping property creates unique characterist and cozy spaces. This project also utilized an ADU conversion of the garage both to increase usable floor area as well as recapturing the south oriented driveway for a courtyard and maximum green space. The "rhombus" shape of the front wing is derived from the odd angles of the property lines combined with the upslope of the natural grade and matching low slope of the gable roof. While not necessarily pertinent to the overall livability or sustainability of the home and spaces, it is a fun expression of residential design that adds character to the neighborhood.
